Phil born in Columbus, Ohio.
Phil is a Founding Member and performed with Pure Prairie League (RCA Records), Bo Diddley, J.D. Blackfoot, (Mercury Records), Dennis Yost and The Classics Four, Eric Moore of The Godz, Sleepy LaBeef (Rockabilly Legend), and has done session work with Craig Fuller of Little Feat.

Phil Co-wrote ” Your wife’s been Cheatin’ on us” with Don Goodman, (writer of No.1 hit -”Old Red”-Recorded by Blake Shelton). Phil also has performed with Dean Germaine, (Buckinghams/Allman Bros./Sammy Davis Jr.), Steve Arvey,(Top Blues artist), Gene Cornish, (The Rascals), Shawn Brown, (Hammond B-3 star), Vidar Busk, (Norwegian blues-rock star), Lucky Peterson, (International Blues Star), Sean Chambers, (Top Florida blues artist), Jimmy Farrar, (Molly Hatchet/Southern Rock allstars/ Gator Country), and Jay Johnson, (Blackfoot/Southern Rock allstars). Phil was a member of J.D. Blackfoot, (Mercury Records),The Eric Moore Group, (Formerly the Godz- Casablanca Records) ,Shakedown, (Qfm 96 Records-Columbus Ohio), The Elvis Extravaganza Show with Jamie Coyne, Crossroads, (Cream tribute Band).Phil worked with actress-singer Beverly DeAngelo, (Star of ” National Lampoon’s Vacation Movies/ Co Star of “Coal Miner’s Daughter”/Vocalist with Ronnie Hawkins). Phil is Currently with the Ghost Riders, (Phoenix Records-Germany/Europe, & Beyond.Fm Records- U.S.A.), and “The Phil Stokes Group”(Tampa Bay Florida).
Phil is a member of Ron And The Classics, one of the most popular Oldies/Country Groups in the Local area


(RCA signed Pure Prairie League after seeing them play in Cleveland, Ohio.

It was Craig, George, Billy Hinds on drums, and Phil Stokes on bass that played that night. 
Phil Stokes reminisces
, "The Cleveland Concert (booked by our manager at the time Rodger Abramson) that got us signed to RCA included Jon Call playing steel on that date because I can remember that long drive from Cincy to
Cleveland in his Mercury Cougar. Also, I was the original bass player when the band was first formed. Craig and I had just left theJD Blackfoot band (Mercury records) in September 1970." The first album was released the following year. "The most memorable thing about it was the Norman Rockwell cover from a 1927 Saturday Evening Post cover,").

Phil has toured worldwide with many other groups as well.

Phil performs solo, duo, and full band sets. He plays Classic Rock, Oldies--50's & 60's, Country, Blues Southern Rock and so forth.
